Resolutions for 2010

New Year

New Year

It has arrived, the much anticipated year 2010.  Everyone has their opinions about 2009 and while most of you have some left over projects, reports, or other cleanup items this is the yearly “clean slate” that we all anticipate.

The gyms are full of those working off the Holiday feasts as well as those starting anew their resolution to hit the gym more often.  Here is a quick guide that I came across that will help you keep those resolutions.  My favorite happens to be #4 on the list; Be Specific.  As a business owner and manager I see this all too often in both personal and business life, such statements as “I need to make more calls” or “I need to plan better” really have little or no way to know if you have actually improved.  A statement such as I will set 15 appointments this week, or our site will reach 20,000 page views this month is very measurable.

Another key point from the list is the third of being realistic.  While you may want your website to reach one million page views this month, if you only have one thousand currently you are setting yourself up for failure.  Look at what you are doing and start with steps, maybe a 10% improvement each quarter.  Obviously if you surpass the goal it is a positive thing and of course your future goals can be adjusted.

Personally I have an initial list of goals and one of those is to update this site 5 times per week, so feel free to harass us if we do not achieve this goal.  To each of you we wish you the best for 2010 and of course good luck with those resolutions.
