Bad Spanish Ad

Bad Spanish Ad

Ad location: To the right of my Facebook profile

Medium: Facebook ad

Brand/Service being advertised: Unclear

Overall Grade: D

Quick Review: Someone must know that some of my Facebook interaction is in Spanish, because I recently saw this crap-tastic Facebook ad while navigating the site one day.  How many Spanish errors can you count? First, we have Rápida encuesta!  Give them credit for placing the accent in the right place, but there should be an upside down exclamation point before rápida…and it should read Encuesta rápida…since the adjective goes after the noun in Spanish.  That’s Spanish 101.

This basic grammar error is repeated in the text: “Necesitamos su ayuda con un muy corto, 3-encuenta que se trate”.  Let’s, see, muy corto should go after encuesta, but…what on Earth does 3-encuesta mean? Is this a 3 question survey? Is this a very clever play on words that I don’t get?  And lastly, what does that “que se trate” at the end mean? It means nothing.  I’m not even sure what the machine that translated this meant to say when it spit this out.  Needless to say, this tiny ad gets the basic Spanish all wrong, making me not exactly inclined to click through and take this survey (or “3-encuesta”).  I wish I would have clicked through to see what this survey was all about (or…que se trate).  Yikes.
