A recent Hispanic Market Weekly article revealed that, with data showing that nearly 50% of U.S. Hispanics online watch full episodes of television shows (versus 28 percent of non-Latinos), Telemundo is now exploring a growing content distribution method.
Telemundo has decided to air a full-length primetime telenovela called“Las Aparicio” online before ever airing the series on the television screen. Scheduled to debut in August, the 120 episode series will be featuring both English and Portuguese subtitles and will allow viewers to connect with the characters through social media as well as offering viewers two viewing options. Viewers can choose the free, ad-supported option with highlights and clips as well as a pay per view option which will allow the viewing of full episodes on demand.
The telenovela “Las Aparicio” follows the lives of three generations of women from the same family – all have widowed under extraordinary circumstances and each has given birth exclusively to girls. All decided to abandon the safety provided by a prince charming and face the challenges of modern life. The telenovela tells their story with a modern perspective, wit and a good dose of dark humor.
