Latino2 - Latinos Online

On Saturday, September 18th, over 100 professionals from the fields of advertising, marketing, public relations, online media, blogging, technology and more gathered to discuss the impact of Latinos online.  The Latino2 conference, organized by LATISM (Latinos in Social Media), brought together ad agency executives, bloggers, and more to discuss how Latinos use social media and, perhaps more importantly, how marketers can best use social media to target this growing demographic.

The event opened with remarks by noted social media evangelist/digital futurist Brian Solis, who left attendees inspired by his thoughts on the impact of social media on society at large. He was then followed by a panel of Latina bloggers, or “blogueras”, who took questions from the audience on how they work and how marketers can target them best (hint: mass emails not appreciated). The last two panels of the afternoon focused on the ad agency perspective, with panelists discussing how they help their clients target Latinos online, and featuring the perspective of a Mexican agency, VRTCCom, on how they help advertisers reach U.S. Hispanics.

The data exists to support the idea that Latinos are online in huge numbers, and are using social media in interesting ways, as both inactive and active users (i.e. not just reading others’ blogs, but creating blogs of their own).  We believe, naturally, that digital is the best way to reaching Latino consumers where they are, and we applaud those working to improve efforts in this area, especially the forces behind Latinos in Social Media.
