So if you’re like me, a business owner, you are inevitably interested in the various marketing techniques used to inform and generate interest with a great return on investment.  We are in the stage of testing out webinar options, discussing topics and discussing options with vendors and speakers…. so yes, that means they are coming to please be prepared.  For that reason, the article in B2B caught my eye, and the statistics cited are showing that we are by no means alone.  A recent Forrester Research report of B2B Marketers 2010 Budget Trends found that 50% of marketers surveyed said that they would spend more on webinars this year than in 2009, putting it at the top along with the percentage anticipating an increase in spending on search marketing.  In other words, I would consider us behind the curve and in the learning phase.

From the very interesting article Webinars 101, there are some key suggestions that I was able to take away from the article:

1. Timing: According to one webinar technology firm, ON24, most of their customer webcasts are hosted between 11a.m – 3 p.m. ET so that they can accomodate both coasts.  Additionally, they recommend avoiding Mondays and Fridays, as they are peak in-office meeting days, which can take away from attendance and attention.

2. Market the Webinar everywhere:  OK, while this sounds like a no-brainer, apparently many fail to utilize all of the options out there including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and others.

3. Quality of the Webinar:  Just like anything else, you can spend a lot of time and money, but in the end if the webinar is not informative, with a quality presentation by the speakers, the chances of the participant being engaged, making it through the webinar, or attending future ones become very slim.  Items such as recruiting interesting guest speakers, making speakers practice and keeping the language focused to the customer all become important.

As we are learning, please let us know if you have any further suggestions, and of course keep an eye out for our future webinars that will of course be CAN’T MISS events.
