According to the latest data from Comscore (NASDAQ: SCOR), the leading online analytic tool, almost 1.3 billion banner ads were delivered on the computers of U.S. users during the third quarter of 2010. This represents an increase of 22% over the same period in 2009.
Jeff Hackett, Senior Vice President of ComScore, stated that the data couldn’t be more encouraging, both in terms of the volume of delivered formats as well as the budgets invested and the increasing penetration of online advertising.
ComScore data also showed that Facebook delivered 297 billion ad impressions during the same period, which is 23.1% of the market. Facebook’s market share increased 13.9%; last year its market share was 9.2%. Yahoo!Sites was in second place, with 140 billion ad impressions (11%), followed by Microsoft’s network of sites with 64 billion impressions (5%) and Fox Interactive Media with 48 billion (3.8%).
In terms of online advertisers, AT&T was the first in terms of volume of delivered impressions, with 21.1 billion, representing 1.6% of all ads in the market. Scottrade came in second with 14.9 billion (1.2 %), followed by Verizon with 14.6 billion (1.1%).
