It seems that Mark Zuckerberg has reason to be happy. After having been portrayed as a creep in a certain recent movie, and as if he had little reason to be proud of his creation (or plague) that now boasts more than 500 million users, he is now squeezing a bit more from his golden goose. In his crosshairs: Gmail.
Titan is the new email system- to describe it in a broad sense- that combines in one application the messages from Facebook, email, chats and text messages. Titan will be able to confirm which is the best mode to contact our friends and thus utilize that mode in a preferred manner. Another important feature is that the messages, regardless of the medium used to send them, will be grouped in one conversation.
The question we should ask is if the new system represents a threat to Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail -in that order, the most popular email providers- or if this will be Facebook’s first big misstep, just like Google Wave was for the Mountain View search engine.
