Given the 2010 U.S. Census results, which showed us that Hispanics in the U.S. make up a robust population of over 50 million people, I assumed that more would be done to appreciate what Hispanics have done for this country. If one in six people in the U.S. is Hispanic, how come one in six high-level executives are not Hispanic, or one in six actors or politicians? Even though the Hispanic population is growing at a rapid rate, the evidence is there that more needs to be done to include Hispanics into the American culture.

One idea that has been mentioned, is the building the National Museum of the American Latino. There is currently an African-American and a Native-American museum, so the building of a Hispanic-American museum would only seem logical; yet there continues to be an anti-Hispanic sentiment, mostly focused on illegal immigration. So the question would be, would this museum have to rely solely on Hispanics as visitors, or are there many other Americans who will want to honor what Hispanics have done for this country?

In the marketing business, I have taken notice of the number of advertisers who have made the effort to reach the Hispanic audience with great results — they advertise in their language, they run campaigns that are relevant to Hispanics. In other words, those who do not embrace Hispanics stand to lose in the long run.
