A recent article from El Universal cites a recent study by the Interactive Advertising Bureau of Mexico (IAB Mexico), detailing the tremendous growth in online advertising in the country between 2005 and 2010.

In the period from 2005-2010, the growth has been 11 times that of the investment in years prior. In 2010, online advertising investment in Mexico was about $291 million USD, with projected growth to $395 million USD in 2011 (about 35 percent growth).

The breakdown of where the online dollars were spent is:
•    61% – Display
•    24% – Search
•    15% – Classified Ads

The principal players in the online advertising investment were:
•    Automotive
•    Finance
•    Drinks
•    Telecommunication

WIth over 38 million Mexicans connected, the investment only represents about $7.65 per user, so there is a lot of room for growth. In addition to continued growth in the main online platforms, there has also recently been explosive growth in video and social media, which is sure to add to the growth curve.

All of this and more is sure to be discussed at the 2011 IAB Conecta conference in Mexico City.
