Mexico wants YOU
In their self-appointed “year of tourism,” Mexico is making great efforts to encourage travel to the country during this coming 2011-2012 winter season. In total, they will have spent $25 million on advertising, not including private sector spending.
Leading this push toward attracting foreigners is Gloria Guevara, Mexico´s Secretary of Tourism, who is currently on tour throughout the US, promoting certain areas of the country such as Cancun, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta. If in the US, come September, you will surely see these ads come across your screen, enticing you to their spectacular beaches. Rachel Ray will be filming four upcoming shows there, and rumor has it the Kardashians may be there as well.
As always, there is much being said to inform travelers that while there is violence in Mexico, it is only in certain areas and not within the areas they´re promoting. With Mexico as the #1 tourist destination in 2010, we imagine the country will continue to be flooded by “gringos,” looking to get a taste of that fantastic Mexican cuisine.
