An article in AdAge tells us that just 34 of 184 brands used Spanish Language Facebook Fan Pages. This is very surprising, because U.S. Hispanics are known to be a group that are heavy consumers of social media. Latinum is a company that works to develop solutions that better meet the needs of Hispanic consumers. Andy Hasselwander, Vice President of professional service and product development for Latinum, said, “That’s only 18 percent, and included are Spanish-language pages from other countries, like a Heineken fan page from Mexico.”

In the Ad Age article on Spanish Facebook pages, Hasselwander also states that there is a big opportunity to engage people, and for brands willing to put up Spanish-language Facebook pages, there’s a huge payoff. He said that in their search, they found about 1.96 million Spanish-language fans and 106.4 million English language fans. The opportunity is definitely there⎯Spanish soccer team Barca has a huge number of fans on Facebook. I believe that brands need to rethink their marketing strategy and focus on how to reach those Spanish-speaking fans through Facebook.
