Pollo Campero

In order to appeal to a broader audience in the U.S., Pollo Campero, the popular Guatemalan fast food chain, is changing the restaurant  layout and expanding its menu. Nation’s Restaurant News reports on the opening of several new Pollo Campero locations in Texas. They will include a salsa bar and an open kitchen, along with patios and outdoor seating.

The chain, which is known for its fried and grilled chicken cooked in a proprietary blend of spices, will begin offering empanadas, tacos, salads and hot pressed sandwiches.  A spokesman for the company noted that tacos have never been offered before, and so chicken tacos would be a way for customers to enjoy Pollo Campero in a completely new way. I think that the company is taking a good, balanced approach to expanding in the U.S. market by continuing to offer the chicken that makes its stand out from other low-cost restaurants while also providing food options that are more familiar to Americans, such as tacos and salads. We’re just anxiously awaiting Pollo Campero’s arrival in Northern California.
