Hulu has recently reached agreements with 11 new Spanish-language partners, in addition to its major content partnership with Univision. Janko Roettgers writes in GigaOm about why Hulu would aggressively pursue the U.S. Hispanic market

Hulu Plus subscribers will be able to access entire current seasons of primetime shows from existing partners Univision, Galavision and Telefutura, most of which have content directly from Mexico. New content partners include Azteca America, Butaca, Caracol Television, Comarex, Estrella TV, Imagina US, Laguna Productions, Maya Entertainment, RCTV, Todo Bebe and Venevision; what is interesting is that these new partners provide content from countries other than Mexico, such as Colombia and Venezuela.

Roettgers includes data from the Census about the growing Hispanic population, as well as recent data from Nielsen showing that Hispanics spend moor hours per week watching online video than non-Hispanics (Roettgers incorrectly uses the term white when he means to say non-Hispanics, because one can be both white and Hispanic). Hulu is wise to get ahead of the game and provide wide-ranging content that this audience will watch.
